"Banana Man", from "Favorite Poem Project"

Well, for my first entry of my first blog ever, I'd like to introduce you to something that has brought alot of joy to me and to many Jamaicans arround the globe. It is my father, George Scott reading his favourite poem "Song Of The Banana Man" by Evan Jones.

The Favourite Poem Project which was has been airing on PBS television accross the us and at this Link for a few years. This year, however, as a result of some re-airing of the program, a new wave of responses have been pouring in to my fathers and his business' email boxes.

Here are some examples:

N. Levine wrote: "Saw you reading poem online. Brought tears and so many memories. Thank you."

J. Pierce wrote: " We watched the video "Banana Man" this morning and were transported back to our island. Thank you!"

Another more personal not went "...I have just discovered the "Favourite Poem Project" website, which I think is marvellous! Imagine my surprise to recognize a compatriot whose family were very good friends of my wife's family... I listened to George's video with a delightful sense of nostalgia,  and I would love to get in touch with him. Although we were not close friends, we knew each other as boys, and perhaps he wilI remember me. I also emigrated (but to Canada) in the early 60s and I look back with great longing to the happy days he talks about.

As you may imagine, this has been a great treat for my father who is living his 81st year and going strong. He has been able to speak to compatriots and admirers from as far as Austrailia to Ireland.

Anyway that's all for now, click that link and make a comment if you can figure this blog thing out. I'm still working on it.
